Overview of Position
The Actuarial Assistant supports various actuarial functions including pricing, reserving, financial reporting, capital management, and forecasting. This role is designed to develop foundational actuarial skills by performing standard, defined tasks and learning techniques vital for Assurant operations. It offers exposure to internal and external reporting requirements and opportunities to participate in exam and rotational programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
The role involves:
- Producing accurate details for internal and external requests.
- Locating, querying, extracting, manipulating, and reconciling data.
- Developing basic programming and coding skills.
- Building awareness of regulatory requirements for supported product lines.
- Preparing responses to state insurance departments under supervision.
- Working on multiple projects with varying deadlines.
- Actively engaging in self-development and team learning.
- Taking actuarial exams to pursue professional designation.
Requirements
Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or a related field, have at least one actuarial exam completed, and possess a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience. Proficiency in MS Office and data repository platforms (SAS/SQL/etc.) is required, as well as a basic understanding of actuarial concepts and insurance products.
