About the role
Sales Engineer Publisher Ad Tech
Assertive Yield is a fast-growing optimization platform empowering publishers and SSPs to drive more revenue through intelligent auction dynamics, traffic shaping, analytics, and real-time decisioning.
Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and technically proficient Sales Engineer to serve as a critical link between our Sales team and prospective publisher clients. This role provides expert pre-sales technical and commercial support, ensuring our adtech solutions are accurately scoped, communicated, and aligned with client needs to accelerate the sales cycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Pre-Sales Technical Support: Lead detailed technical conversations during client meetings, pitches, and product demonstrations, translating product capabilities (e.g., Yield Manager, Prebid solutions) into clear, measurable business value. Capable of running technical workshops and discovery sessions independently, without requiring sales support.
- RFI and RFP Ownership: Own the full RFI/RFP process, including building and maintaining a structured response framework from the ground up to ensure accuracy, consistency, and timely submission.
- Technical Vetting and Scoping: Conduct in-depth pre-sales vetting to assess client needs, define integration requirements, scope the project's complexity, and prevent the pursuit of non-viable proposals.
- Client Onboarding Transition: Ensure a smooth technical handover of new clients to Customer Success and TAM teams, documenting all pre-sales commitments, custom requirements, and technical prerequisites.
- Product Expertise: Maintain deep, current knowledge of Assertive Yield's full product suite and the broader publisher monetization ecosystem, including header bidding, ad servers, SSPs, identity solutions, and industry standards.
- Internal Consulting: Act as an internal consultant to ensure onboarding initiatives are executed effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Optimization & Roadmap Influence: Surface best practices to improve customer performance and retention. Maintain a structured pre-sales feedback loop with Product and Engineering to directly influence AY's roadmap based on patterns identified during the sales cycle.
Required Skills And Experience
- 8+ years in a pre-sales, Solutions Engineering, or Technical Account Management role within ad tech or publisher monetization.
- Deep practical knowledge of the digital advertising ecosystem: header bidding (Prebid.js, including server-side/S2S configurations and wrapper management), Google Ad Manager, and SSP integrations.
- Familiarity with identity solutions (UID2, RampID, Topics API) and their measurable revenue impact on publisher yield.
- Understanding of CMP and consent frameworks (TCF 2.x, CCPA) and their downstream effects on auction dynamics and fill rates.
- Prior direct experience working at or closely with a publisher, SSP, or yield management platform, with working knowledge of traffic shaping, bid density optimization, and auction dynamics concepts central to Assertive Yield's core product.
- Basic scripting ability in Python or JavaScript is sufficient to validate integrations, interrogate data, or build lightweight proof-of-concept demos.
- Familiarity with ad-quality and brand-safety tooling (e.g., Protected Media, Confiant).
- Experience with competitive landscape analysis across yield optimization platforms.
- Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical audiences (Ad Ops) and non-technical stakeholders (C-suite).
- Strong organizational skills, managing multiple RFI/RFP processes concurrently, with a demonstrable track record of building response frameworks, not just contributing to existing ones.
Nice to Have
- Existing relationships within the publisher or SSP ecosystem.
- Exposure to cloud infrastructure basics (AWS/GCP) in the context of real-time bidding environments.
- Multilingual ability, given AY's international client footprint.
