Job Description
What You Would Do As Our Mechanical Engineer
As a Mechanical Engineer at ASSA ABLOY Business Segment Industrial (BSI) within ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems, you will be empowered to take ownership of mechanical design and development projects that directly impact our product portfolio. Your focus will be on creating simple, cost-effective, and service-friendly solutions that meet our high standards for quality and durability. This is not about high-tech complexity — it’s about smart engineering: finding clever, minimalistic solutions that reduce cost without compromising performance or reliability. This position is a temporary assignment with a fixed-term contract of 12 months, intended to support the team during a defined period.
You would also:
- Design and develop mechanical components and systems for industrial doors, including testing, validation, root cause analysis, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
- Drive cost reduction through simplified, robust, and manufacturable designs, supported by feasibility studies and cost analyses for new and existing solutions.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (electrical, software, service, production) to ensure integrated, efficient, and practical solutions across the full product lifecycle.
- Support supplier selection and component evaluation with a strong focus on quality, cost efficiency, sustainability, and long-term performance.
- Contribute to innovation projects by prioritizing practicality, simplicity, and value, while providing technical support to production and installation teams.
The Skills And Experience You Need
We are looking for someone who has:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) with 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably within industrial equipment.
- Strong proficiency in CAD tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar, combined with hands-on experience in mechanical system design.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and mechanical principles, including experience with FMEA, DFMA, and design validation methods.
- A pragmatic, solution-oriented engineering mindset with a strong focus on cost-effective, manufacturable, and robust design solutions.
- Strong communication skills and proven ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional team environment.
You are a hands-on and practical engineer who enjoys solving real problems and seeing ideas turning into working solutions. You work well with others and communicate in a clear, straightforward way, which makes collaboration across different teams easy and effective. You take responsibility for your work, stay focused on what is realistic and cost-efficient, and are comfortable balancing quality, deadlines, and technical constraints. Curious by nature, you like improving things and contributing with ideas that create value in everyday operations.
