Role Overview

The Strategic Communications Writing Specialist will serve as a versatile writer and editorial strategist for ASME. In this role, you will gather, align, and elevate messaging across business units, ensuring high-quality content and a consistent organizational voice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with business units to maintain up-to-date messaging frameworks.
  • Draft and refine elevator pitches, value propositions, and messaging toolkits.
  • Support leadership communications with tailored talking points and ghostwritten materials.
  • Collaborate with communications leadership to align enterprise messages with overall strategy.
  • Write overflow content including internal announcements, emails, web copy, newsletters, and more.
  • Identify story opportunities that highlight organizational achievements.
  • Collaborate with analytics and social media teams to measure content performance and enhance strategies.
  • Ensure all content adheres to ASME’s voice, tone, style, and editorial guidelines.
  • Maintain the internal editorial guide and communicate updates across teams.
  • Manage podcast coordination and contribute to the weekly Coffee Chat Zoom show.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Communications, English, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field is required along with a minimum of 3 years of professional writing and strategic communications experience. Experience with nonprofit, STEM, or membership organizations is preferred.

Technical and Professional Skills

  • Excellent written communication tailored for diverse audiences.
  • Strong relationship management and collaboration across departments.
  • Effective project management and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with CMS, email marketing platforms, intranet software, and collaboration tools like Asana and Airtable.
  • Understanding of content metrics, data-informed creation, and SEO best practices.

Work Arrangement

This role is eligible for a remote work arrangement.

Compensation

The New York metro salary range is estimated between $74,000 and $78,000 per year, subject to geographic location.
