Job Description

About the Central File Opening Team

The Central File Opening (CFO) team at Ashtons Legal plays a vital role in supporting all departments across the firm by managing the file opening process. This includes ensuring compliance with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations and conducting thorough Client Due Diligence (CDD) checks.

Your Role as a File Opener

As a File Opener, you will be responsible for handling a variety of administrative tasks to ensure files are opened accurately and efficiently, supporting the wider legal teams in delivering excellent client service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Open client files using the firm’s case management system
  • Upload and manage client identification documents
  • Follow up with clients via telephone and email to obtain required information
  • Assist with risk assessments and related compliance tasks
  • Perform general administrative duties to support the CFO team

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential:
  • Previous experience in a legal practice or comparable office environment
  • Strong data entry skills and experience working to deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and workloads
  • Confident using your own initiative and working independently
  • Strong interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Comfortable discussing ID requirements with clients and colleagues
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Desirable:
  • Experience in a legal secretarial, administrative, or similar office-based role
  • Familiarity with AML and CDD processes (training can be provided)

The team meets weekly in Bury St Edmunds for training sessions, team meetings and informal catch-ups.
