Staff Product Designer

Overview

Hello! I'm Chris, head of Product Design at Ashby. We are seeking a versatile, intrinsically motivated Staff Product Designer to rethink modern software design. At Ashby, you will blend roles as a designer, product manager, consultant, and design system manager.

How We Work

Unlike traditional product teams, we take a principled approach where design is a shared responsibility among product teams. This role requires breaking down ambiguous projects into actionable tasks and sometimes taking ownership similar to a product manager. You will help equip the team with design standards, principles, and hands-on expertise.

What We’re Building

Our goal is to assist talent teams in creating a better hiring process by automating coordination tasks and replacing outdated tools like spreadsheets. The product spans across user types and usability challenges while focusing on an approachable yet powerful design experience.

Your Role and Responsibilities

• Consult engineers on layout, typography, flows, and more.
• Create visual artifacts using Figma for stakeholder alignment.
• Write detailed specification documents for design proposals.
• Take ownership of larger product features including IA and interactions.
• Contribute to building and refining our design system.

Qualifications

We require 10+ years of product design experience, predominantly in desktop SaaS. You should be adept at breaking down huge projects, influencing engineering and product teams, and establishing design standards. Experience at an early-stage startup or as a solo designer is a plus.

Interview Process

The interview process comprises four rounds: an introduction call, portfolio review, design exercise with whiteboarding, a portfolio deep dive, and a final team meet. Expect casual Zoom coffee sessions and detailed feedback if not selected.
