This is a full-time, days position within the Claims department, offered remotely.
Position: Claims & Litigation Specialist
The Claims & Litigation Specialist will lead the strategy and investigation for complex professional liability and medical malpractice claims. This role involves directing external defense counsel, establishing precise loss reserves, and representing the organization in negotiations, mediations, trials, and depositions to secure favorable settlements. A key aspect of the role is collaborating with Risk Management to derive "lessons learned" from claim outcomes, thereby enhancing patient safety and mitigating future liabilities.
Responsibilities
- Medical Malpractice Oversight: Leads the strategy and investigation for complex professional liability and medical malpractice claims from initial report through final resolution.
- Litigation Management: Directs external defense counsel on case action plans, ensuring all litigation adheres to organizational guidelines and protocols.
- Financial & Regulatory Reporting: Establishes precise loss reserves and executes National Claims Committee reports for significant high-exposure matters.
- Direct Settlement Authority: Negotiates directly with plaintiff attorneys and represents the organization at mediations, trials, and depositions to secure favorable settlements.
- Risk Mitigation: Collaborates with Risk Management to translate claim outcomes into "lessons learned" that improve patient safety and reduce future liability.
Requirements
Education & Experience:
- High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree with 1 year of experience OR 5 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
- 2 years of leadership or management experience preferred.
