Overview

The Part-time Math Coach will deliver as-needed academic support and mentorship to students in the AoPS Pathways scholarship program. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with motivated young students and contributing to the AoPS community.

Role Responsibilities

Meet with elementary, middle, and high school students for 1-1 math coaching sessions. Provide homework support, engage in discussions on math topics, and encourage critical thinking and problem solving. After each session, update the outreach team and the student’s parent(s) with progress and follow-up recommendations. Keep your availability up-to-date in the booking system and attend professional development sessions. Additional tasks may be assigned as needed.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Strong math content knowledge through advanced high school level
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Experience teaching or tutoring students at the K-12 level preferred
  • Engaging and enthusiastic demeanor
  • Interest in high-achieving diverse students
  • Familiarity with the AoPS curriculum is a plus
  • Experience with math contests is a plus

Session Details

For each session, support students with their homework, have math conversations, and provide session summaries to the outreach team and parents.

Schedule

This part-time position requires 5-15 hours per week, with variable scheduling depending on student needs. Most sessions occur on weekdays between 2pm-7pm PT and on weekends between 9am-3pm PT, with high demand on Fridays and Saturdays. Candidates should be regularly available for at least 8 hours per week within these windows.
