Job Overview
Archer, an aerospace company based in San Jose, California, is building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft focused on sustainable air mobility. We are seeking a seasoned Materials and Processes Engineer Adhesives to lead the development, qualification, and FAA certification of bonding technologies for our next-generation eVTOL aircraft.
What You’ll Do
- Serve as technical lead for adhesive bonding systems including epoxy, polyurethane, and acrylic adhesives.
- Develop and validate bonding processes, surface preparation techniques, and inspection protocols in compliance with FAA regulations, particularly 14 CFR Part 23.
- Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and certification teams to ensure bonded joints meet performance standards.
- Author material and process specifications including qualification plans and test procedures.
- Support failure analysis and root cause investigations of bonded structures.
- Interface with FAA representatives, DERs, and regulatory bodies to support certification efforts.
- Provide training and mentorship on best practices in structural bonding.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes.
What You’ll Need
- Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in aerospace adhesives and structural bonding.
- Expertise in material qualification and FAA certification for bonded structures.
- Deep understanding of adhesive chemistry, bonding mechanisms, and failure analysis.
- Familiarity with FAA Advisory Circulars, ASTM standards, and MIL specifications.
- Experience with composite materials, metal bonding, and hybrid structures.
- Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills.
- Experience with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
Base pay is targeted between $186,240 and $232,800 based on skills, experience, and qualifications.
