Job Overview

APTIM is seeking a Junior Environmental Scientist in the Harrisburg, PA area on a full-time basis to support our stormwater compliance program. The role also offers opportunities to work in other areas of environmental compliance including solid waste, hazardous materials, aboveground storage tanks, spill prevention, DOT and RCRA compliance, site assessment, remediation, and environmental data management.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Collect environmental samples in the field and prepare them for lab analysis.
  • Calibrate and use technical instruments accurately.
  • Review permit and planning documents such as NPDES, MSGP, SWPPP, and SPCC plans.
  • Plan, organize, and schedule field activities, ensuring communication with clients.
  • Perform field inspections and document site conditions, recommendations, and compliance.
  • Travel to client facilities and work in various weather conditions, including overtime and weekends if needed.
  • Develop and maintain records using manual or computer methods.
  • Follow safety protocols and wear necessary personal protective equipment.
  • Interface with client personnel and work both independently and as part of a team.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, Environmental Science or related field.
  • 1-2 years related work experience or entry level with strong academic background.
  • Ability to work independently in various field conditions and safety compliance.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Excel, MS Word, SharePoint Online, etc.).
  • Experience in stormwater compliance inspection/sampling desirable.
  • Valid Driver's License, with travel and flexible work hours required.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • SWPPP Practitioner (QSP) or Industrial Storm Water Practitioner (QiSP) certifications.
  • National certifications in industrial/stormwater management.
  • Experience with federal, state, or local regulations review.
  • 40-hour OSHA-HAZWOPER training.

Additional Information

Estimated pay range is $26-$28.50 per hour, dependent on various factors including experience and location.
