Job Overview

APTIM is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist in California for the Solid Waste Services Group in Concord, CA. The role supports projects involving environmental compliance, GCCS design & operations, construction quality assurance, solid waste reporting, site assessments, and remediation.

Services Provided

  • Environmental compliance for solid waste sites
  • Landfill gas collection and control system design, operations and maintenance
  • Construction quality assurance
  • Solid Waste Reporting for site-specific and General Waste Discharge Requirements
  • Environmental site assessments and remediation

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead teams and projects
  • Prepare site/grading plans, GCCS design, pump and piping plans, and conceptual layouts
  • Conduct field inspections and construction quality assurance oversight
  • Complete regulatory compliance reports, work plans, and special studies
  • Anticipate client needs and offer solutions
  • Manage scopes, budgets, and schedules
  • Coordinate with contractors and clients
  • Attend client meetings and communicate technical concepts
  • Supervise field tasks and installation of monitoring wells when needed

Basic Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Geology, Engineering, or related field
  • 10-15 years of landfill/solid waste experience
  • Field data collection experience (groundwater, surface water, leachate, landfill gas)
  • Excellent oral & written communication
  • Team player with strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations
  • Safety-minded and able to use proper PPE

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with California State Water Resources Control Board
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training with current refresher certificate
  • Familiarity with statistical evaluation methods (Sanitas software)
  • Qualified Industrial Stormwater Practitioner
