Overview

The Technical Writer, Federal Proposals, is responsible for developing, editing, and refining compliant, persuasive, and technically accurate content supporting Applied Intellect’s federal proposals, capture efforts, and business development initiatives. This role collaborates closely with proposal managers, subject matter experts, and technical leads to translate complex solutions into clear, compelling narratives aligned with solicitation requirements, evaluation criteria, and government standards.

Location: Remote – Candidates must reside in the DMV area (District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia)

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops, writes, and edits proposal content including technical volumes, management approaches, past performance narratives, executive summaries, and resumes.
  • Analyzes RFPs, RFQs, and RFIs to understand solicitation requirements, evaluation factors, and compliance elements.
  • Transforms technical, operational, and management input into clear, structured, and persuasive proposal language.
  • Ensures proposal content aligns with Section L & M instructions, statement of work (SOW), and compliance matrices.
  • Collaborates with proposal managers, capture teams, SMEs, and solution architects to develop accurate and compelling responses.
  • Edits and standardizes proposal sections for clarity, tone, grammar, consistency, and win themes.
  • Supports development of proposal artifacts including templates, boilerplate libraries, and reusable content.
  • Assists in creating graphics narratives, process flows, and visual storytelling elements.
  • Participates in proposal reviews (Pink Team, Red Team, Gold Team) and incorporates feedback.
  • Supports tight proposal deadlines and multiple concurrent submissions.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive proposal and competitive information.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience supporting federal proposals, government contracting, or professional services environments preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong writing, editing, and grammatical skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to present complex technical information clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Basic familiarity with software systems, SDLC processes, and technical environments preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related documentation tools.
  • Experience supporting federal contracting, compliance documentation, or technical proposals preferred.

Training Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of Applied Intellect’s Orientation and Training.
  • Complete additional training as identified by supervisor or Human Resources.

Physical Demands

Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity. Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands. Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying; and Quantitative/mathematical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, standard measurements).
