Job Overview
As the Subject Matter Expert - Automation at Apple, you will drive automation activities including machine vision and robotics in enclosure and module manufacturing processes. You will collaborate with integrators, suppliers, contract manufacturers, and internal customers to develop and implement sophisticated automation capabilities within the supply chain on aggressive timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive design reviews and execute proofs of concept.
- Maintain issues lists and implement data logging and traceability.
- Review control logic and programming, and define qualification requirements for FAT/SAT.
- Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to identify automation opportunities.
- Provide onsite technical support during build phases and production ramp-up.
- Coordinate with overseas counterparts to mitigate risks and push process capabilities.
- Present detailed analysis to key decision makers for commercial and design decisions.
- Drive R&D activities with industry partners for step-change improvements.
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years of experience in automation and robotics applications for mass production, machine design expertise, and experience with machine vision, motion control, and sensors. A BS/MS in engineering (mechanical, manufacturing, automation, mechatronics, robotics, or equivalent) is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Reconcile DFM feedback with design goals.
- Drive root cause/corrective actions and process optimization using DOE and statistical methods.
- Work independently on multiple challenging projects.
- Expertise with vision-guided assembly, precision dispense, and laserwelding applications.
- Experience with major six-axis industrial robots and PLCs/IPCs along with appropriate programming languages.
- Extensive CAD experience and global supply chain knowledge.
- Fluency in Mandarin Chinese is a plus.
