About the role
Software Engineering Manager – System Applications
Would you like to lead the team that started and released features like Files, Image Playground, Preview used by millions of people daily? Our team is very integrated into core user experience projects on Apple core platform. We work on features that sit at the intersection of AI, design, and platform engineering. You ll work alongside a world-class group of engineers and designers to push the boundaries of intuitive interaction. The team operates from Paris with deep, daily collaboration with engineering and design teams in Cupertino. You'll need to thrive in asynchronous communication, cut through ambiguity across timezones, and represent the team's work.
Product Execution & Delivery
- Partner with engineering sister teams and designers to define and deliver user-facing features that feel magical — all while balancing performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Live and breathe attention to detail. Own the product, get a sense of full user experience, know the state off things and push the execution towards shipping goals.
- Manage tasks and bugs on a daily basis with strong methodology and tooling.
- Integrate AI in your team culture and workflows.
- Help the team focus on what matters most. Evaluate trade-offs, question assumptions, and guide the team to make thoughtful, data-informed decisions.
System-Level Understanding
- Quickly ramp up on the broader system architecture. Connect the dots between frameworks, UI layers, and platform capabilities to drive innovation from the inside out.
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Represent the team across the organization. Work closely with system software teams, platform architects, and UX designers to integrate seamlessly into the broader ecosystem.
- Being a remote team, you need to show ability to cut through ambiguity, communicate effectively and focus.
- Be a positive force, showing proactive and helpful attitude in complex projects where your team is involved.
Team Leadership & Growth
- Hire, mentor, and support a team of talented engineers. Foster individual growth, set clear expectations, and build a culture of innovation, ownership and collaboration.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience with Apple development environments (iOS/macOS) SwiftUI, UIKit, and AppKit.
- Ability to recruit, grow, and retain top talent.
- High attention to detail, with a deep understanding of UI and system design trade-offs.
- Strong technical foundation and hands-on experience shipping high-quality user features.
Preferred Qualifications
