About The Role
As a member of the Frontier Counsel function, you will work on the cutting edge of AI, serving as a trusted legal advisor to Anthropic’s Research organization and Compute team. You will provide strategic guidance on data acquisition, risk mitigation, and evolving regulatory regimes, addressing complex legal issues at the intersection of AI development and responsible innovation.
Responsibilities
- Advise Research teams on permissible data usage and partner on data sourcing strategy.
- Counsel the Compute team on data localization, cross-border transfers, privacy, and copyright issues.
- Monitor regulatory developments and adapt internal policies for compliance.
- Translate legal requirements for technical teams and facilitate stakeholder communication.
- Engage with external experts to establish norms and best practices around data governance.
- Support teams working on AI safety and model vulnerabilities.
You May Be a Good Fit If You Have
- A JD and active U.S. state bar membership (California preferred).
- At least 8 years of relevant legal experience in technology or AI/ML.
- A creative, problem-solving attitude with a focus on linking legal and technical frameworks.
- Experience advising on legal issues for AI products or research environments.
- Excellent written communication skills for drafting policies and engaging stakeholders.
- A willingness to work in a fast-paced startup environment.
Additional Information
- Role requires working from the San Francisco or New York office at least 3 days weekly.
- Compensation: $265,000—$320,000 USD annually.
- Visa sponsorship is available but depends on the specific candidate and role fit.
