About the Role

The Engineering Manager - Observability leads the Observability team responsible for the metrics infrastructure that keeps Anthropic's critical systems running. This role is mission-critical, ensuring that production inference and training operations are continuously monitored and maintained.

• Lead and grow a high-performing software engineering team.
• Own and drive the metrics platform's design, reliability, and roadmap.
• Partner with internal teams to gather requirements and manage priorities.
• Ensure operational rigor with on-call and incident response improvements.

Responsibilities

• Grow the Observability team with exceptional hires.
• Oversee the metrics platform end-to-end.
• Build partnerships with infrastructure, training, and inference teams.
• Align architecture and execution with technical leads.
• Drive operational rigor and sustainable on-call practices.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of engineering management experience in observability or similar fields.
• Expertise with metrics infrastructure tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.
• Experience managing internal platform teams with diverse stakeholders.
• Operational mindset with significant on-call responsibilities.
• Positive leadership and the ability to foster a resilient work culture.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in running observability systems in large organizations.
• Managing external vendor partnerships and large-scale metrics infrastructure.
• Experience with observability for ML workloads.

Compensation & Logistics

Annual Salary: $405,000—$485,000 USD.

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.

Location: Hybrid work policy with at least 25% office presence.
