Your Role: Senior/ Associate Staff Substation Civil Engineer - Structural
The Substation Senior Engineer (Civil) is responsible for the design and procurement of site and equipment/materials for substation facilities in accordance with applicable industry codes, standards and customer requirements. They will work closely with other departments and clients to ensure quality, meeting client's standards and expectations and provide field support to the client during construction activities as required.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare scopes of work, cost estimates, and technical proposals for civil site design on substation projects
- Conduct structural analysis for substation equipment foundations and support structures
- Review and validate site layouts, equipment arrangements, and access/maintenance requirements for constructability
- Design structural components including cable tray, conduit support, equipment supports, and other support structures
- Integrate relay and substation component requirements into structural designs
- Apply relevant codes and standards (ASCE, ACI, AASHTO, local stormwater regulations)
- Conduct QC reviews on work produced by lower‑level engineers and designers
- Mentor junior engineers on modeling, design methods, and software tools
- Provide moderate field support including site walkdowns, construction review, and development of scopes for site improvements
What You Bring
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited university. Professional Engineer (PE) license required. In lieu of PE: +2 years of additional experience.
- Experience: Senior Engineer: 7+ years; Associate Staff Engineer: 12+ years in civil design within utilities or the energy sector. Experience with ETAP, WinIGS, and IEEE 80/998. Civil, any domestic PE, Structural, substation experience required.
