Your Role: Senior/ Associate Staff Substation Civil Engineer - Foundation

The Substation Senior Engineer (Civil) is responsible for the design and procurement of foundation and equipment/materials for substation facilities in accordance with applicable industry codes, standards and customer requirements. They will work closely with other departments and clients to ensure quality, meeting client's standards and expectations and provide field support to the client during construction activities as required.

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare scopes of work, estimates, and technical documentation for foundation engineering on substation projects
  • Identify appropriate foundation types based on geotechnical conditions, environmental factors, and loading requirements
  • Perform advanced foundation calculations (bearing capacity, settlement, uplift, lateral resistance, load combinations, equipment loading)
  • Develop foundation plans, sections, reinforcement details, and calculation packages for IFR/IFA/IFC deliverables
  • Interpret soil boring logs, geotechnical reports, and site investigation data with minimal oversight
  • Interface with internal teams, project managers, clients, and vendors to coordinate design decisions
  • Apply governing codes and standards (ASCE, ACI, AISC, AASHTO)
  • Perform peer checks and formal QC reviews on lower‑level engineering work
  • Mentor junior engineers on foundation engineering principles, analysis methods, and software tools
  • Provide moderate field support including review of excavations, reinforcement placement, and construction troubleshooting
  • Perform detailed site analysis including grading, drainage, stormwater management, erosion control, and water flow calculations
  • Develop site, grading, and drainage plans with associated civil details for IFR/IFA/IFC deliverables
  • Integrate survey data, geotechnical reports, hydrology reports, and client standards into site design

Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited university
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • In lieu of PE: +2 years of additional experience
Experience
  • Senior Engineer: 7+ years in civil design within utilities or the energy sector
  • Associate Staff Engineer: 12+ years in civil design within utilities or the energy sector
  • Experience with ETAP, WinIGS, and IEEE 80/998
  • Civil, any domestic PE, Foundation, substation experience preferred.
