Position Overview
The Major Gifts Officer at American Humane Society is responsible for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting high-level donors to secure significant funding. Reporting directly to the Vice President, Major Gifts and Planned Giving, this role focuses on developing and managing a portfolio of major gift prospects principally in designated regions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a portfolio of approximately 100 major gift prospects.
- Implement strategies to advance donors into higher levels of giving.
- Achieve KPIs including securing $1M+ in annual revenue by year three.
- Steward current donors and provide regular updates to senior leadership.
- Coordinate outreach, donor meetings, presentations and fundraising events.
- Manage donor data in Salesforce and prepare detailed proposals and reports.
Essential Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of major gifts fundraising experience.
- Proven track record in donor cultivation, solicitation skills, and stewardship.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; CFRE credential desired.
- Strong communication, tech proficiency (Salesforce, Microsoft Office) and client service mentality.
Additional Details
This role can be based in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Palm Beach or remotely, with national travel up to 50% required. Flexibility for occasional evenings/weekends is needed, along with a commitment to American Humane Society’s core values including Compassion, Accountability, and Respect for All.
