Amazon User Experience Designer Internship
Amazon internships are full-time, in-office positions, requiring interns to work Monday-Friday, up to 40 hours per week, typically between 8am-5pm. Interns must not have conflicts like classes or other employment during work hours. Applicants need at least one quarter/semester/trimester remaining in their studies post-internship. You can specify your preferred location and start date during the application, though availability and business needs will determine the final assignment. Final details on location and start dates will be provided with the job offer.
Internship start dates for 2026 include:
- Winter (Starts January/February 2026)

Role Overview
As a User Experience Designer Intern, you will contribute to product vision and collaborate with a team that defines and designs user interfaces, systems, and interaction, visual, motion, and voice design patterns. You must be proactive, creative, flexible, resilient, and able to handle high levels of ambiguity.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Design thoughtful, beautiful, and useful software user interfaces and experiences in a team environment.
- Create user-centered designs by considering market analysis, customer feedback, site metrics, and usability findings.
- Use business requirements, user and market research to assist in developing scenarios, use cases, and high-level requirements.
- Design the UI architecture, interface, and interaction flow of applications and experiences.
- Develop conceptual diagrams, wireframes, visual mockups, click-throughs, and prototypes.
- Develop and maintain detailed user-interface specifications and design patterns.
- Work with program managers to plan projects for effective delivery while maintaining high standards for design.
- Be a passionate and effective advocate for design with non-design audiences.
- Write effectively to communicate design rationales and benefits to Amazon customers.

Basic Qualifications
- Enrolled in an academic program physically located in the United States.
- 18 years of age or older.
- Commit to a full-time (40 hours/week minimum), 12-week maximum internship.
- Experience working in a collaborative team environment to deliver high-quality design solutions.
- Submit at least two creative materials for Amazon to review (website, PDF, slide deck, etc.).
- Experience in various design, wire-framing, and prototyping tools.
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in Design, Human-Centered Interaction, Statistics, Psychology, Computer Science, or an equivalent discipline, with an expected conferral date between October 2026 – December 2029.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with consumer brands and experience design, coupled with a passion for storytelling.
- Experience working in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team and directly with developers for design implementation.
- Demonstrated visual design experience through mockups and style guides.
- Knowledge of mobile and web design patterns and accessibility standards.
- Ability to proficiently present design solutions to stakeholders in design, product management, and engineering.
Creative Materials Guidance
- Show your thinking: Include at least two projects illustrating the problem you aimed to solve, your design process, early iterations, and the final implemented design. We want to understand your approach.
- Pay attention to detail: A submission is visual storytelling (beginning, middle, and end). Ensure clear visual hierarchy, consistent spacing and alignment, and articulate the intention behind your decisions.
- Be customer-centric: Explain your customer, their unmet needs, how you validated or invalidated assumptions, and how your design addresses those needs.
Compensation Information
Amazon's compensation reflects labor costs across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this User Experience Designer Internship ranges from $35.05/hr in the lowest geographic market up to $76.01/hr in the highest. Pay is based on market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company, and depending on the position, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total package, along with a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
