About the Role
Transform global competition policy landscapes by bridging innovative business strategies with regulatory insights. As a Principal Competition Policy Manager, you'll be a key strategic advisor shaping Amazon's approach to complex policy challenges across Europe, Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. This role empowers businesses and fosters competitive marketplaces that ultimately benefit customers and entrepreneurs worldwide.
This role and team is based in Seattle. As Principal Competition Policy Manager, you will be in a position to travel internationally in line with the business need.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise Amazon’s Consumer businesses on competition-related policy developments in Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region.
- Help shape the company’s long-term strategy on high impact, complex, and often novel issues.
- Work with colleagues throughout the company to demonstrate how our businesses operate, spur innovation, foster competition, benefit customers, and enable third-party businesses of all sizes to compete in the global marketplace.
- Collaborate with a broad coalition of external stakeholders, including industry associations, multilateral bodies, academic institutions, and researchers.
- Provide strategic advice on competition policy matters to in-country International Public Policy colleagues.
- Help design, administer, and execute mitigation and engagement strategies.
- Monitor and report relevant legislative and regulatory activity, develop positioning, draft collateral, and support outreach programs in concert with business objectives.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or above in a relevant discipline (e.g. Law, Political Science, Public Policy, Public Affairs, Economic Development).
- 13+ years of public policy experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- 15+ years of public policy experience.
- Experience in oral and written communication in English.
- Experience using English communication skills, both written and verbal, to foster seamless interaction with stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience working effectively across cross-functional teams and partnering well with people at all levels within an organization.
- Demonstrated ability to run campaigns; strong project management, administrative, and budget management skills.
- Maintain highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality and integrity, with a strong professional reputation in the industry.
- Ability to identify and understand key technical aspects pertaining to corporate operations in legislative and regulatory proposals, understand business implications, and synthesize policy documents for internal and external customers.
- Ability to influence, negotiate with, and persuade others.
- Demonstrate strong judgment/decision-making skills, and political acumen.
- A proven ability to convey complex arguments in writing.
- An advanced degree in a relevant field (Economics, Law, Public Policy).
- Fluency in a second language, including French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese.
