Amazon internships across all seasons are full-time positions where interns work 40 hours per week in-office from 8am-5pm. Location & Schedule

Your application will be considered for Data Engineer roles at various US locations including Greater Seattle Area (Seattle, Bellevue, Redmond), Greater Bay Area (San Francisco, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara), Greater DMV (DC, MD, VA), Austin, New York City, and Minneapolis. You will indicate your location preference and start date during the application process, though final assignments depend on business needs.

Internship Start Dates

Internship start periods include Winter (January/February 2026), Summer (May/June 2026), and Fall (August/September 2026).

Role Description

Do you love building data pipelines and solving big data warehousing challenges? As a Data Engineer Internship 2026, you will work on designing tools, building data pipelines, and developing systemic data solutions that drive key business decisions at Amazon.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and automate deployment of distributed log processing systems.
  • Create data schema and manage SQL/NoSQL databases and data warehouses.
  • Develop and maintain metrics, dashboards, and analytical reports.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve operational or data pipeline issues.
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts, Data Scientists, and internal partners.
  • Improve performance by optimizing database queries and building automated data pipelines.

The internship provides hands-on learning with impactful projects, mentorship, networking opportunities, and personal development experiences in a fast-paced environment.

Basic Qualifications

  • 18 years or older and able to work 40 hours/week.
  • Enrolled in an academic program physically located in the US.
  • Experience with data transformation, SQL, and scripting languages (e.g., Python, KornShell, Scala).
  • Must be pursuing or have received a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or advanced technical degree in a related field with expected conferral between October 2026 – December 2029.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS and building data pipelines or ETL processes.
  • Experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Apache Spark) and data visualization tools (e.g., AWS QuickSight, Tableau).
  • Previous technical internship experience and familiarity with data schema design.

Compensation & Benefits

Base pay ranges from $43.85/hr to $88.94/hr depending on the geographic market, with additional equity, sign-on payments, and benefits offered.
