About the Amazon Scholars Program

The Amazon Scholars program invites world-class university professors to collaborate on significant, large-scale technical challenges at Amazon while maintaining their academic appointments. This program offers senior academics the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research alongside Amazon teams, leveraging access to extensive datasets. Scholars can develop, test, and implement research methodologies in a practical, industry setting, driving innovations that yield immediate real-world benefits. Beyond contributing to high-impact science, participants gain valuable industry experience to share with their students and research labs.

Basic Qualifications

• PhD in a relevant field or related discipline
• 5+ years of relevant work or academic experience
• Experience leading technical research projects with multiple stakeholders
• Current affiliation with an academic or research institution

Preferred Qualifications

• Recognized expert in the external community in an applied science discipline, with broad interdisciplinary knowledge.
• Extensive understanding of applied mathematics, algorithms, and computational complexity.
• Expert-level research analysis and technical leadership capabilities.
• Proficiency in modeling, performance optimization, operationalization, and scalability of scientific techniques, including establishing decision strategies.
• Demonstrated ability to independently lead research development and analysis in a fast-paced environment.
• Proven track record of innovation in creating novel technologies and advancing the state of the art.
• Publications at top-tier, peer-reviewed conferences and/or journals.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication and consensus-building skills, effective with both technical and non-technical audiences.
