About the role
About the Role
AWS is launching the first European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) and is seeking experienced Systems Engineers for the Managed Operations team. You will build and lead teams responsible for high-availability AWS services for EU customers. This is a pivotal role in launching ESC in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams, and influencing service evolution. You will work with technology leaders to improve operations, availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC, ensuring scalable services and a high-availability experience for EU customers. This is an impactful opportunity to build a best-in-class development engineering and operations team.Utility Computing (UC)
European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) is part of AWS Utility Computing (UC), which provides product innovations from foundational services like S3 and EC2 to new product innovations. As part of the UC organization, you will support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, IoT, Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS. Managed Operations engineers within AWS UC work with customers requiring specialized security solutions.A Day in the Life
A typical day involves operating and improving large-scale software systems. You will review the operational health of services, write actionable bug reports for anomalies, execute changes to production systems following change management processes, resolve operational issues, and develop scripts to accelerate root cause analysis. Occasional participation in an on-call rotation is required.Eligibility Requirements
Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Candidates must be nationals of an EU member state and reside in the EU. Amazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants relocating within the EU. Employees will participate in an On-Call rota.About The Team

- Must be a national of an EU member state.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science (or related IT discipline) or equivalent industry experience.
- Knowledge or experience in scripting (Bash, Python, or Ruby) or software development (Java, TypeScript, or similar), coupled with Linux and networking fundamentals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to execute standard operating procedures and follow operational best practices.
- Knowledge or experience operating services in AWS or other cloud systems.
- Knowledge or experience operating 24x7 high-availability, distributed software applications, performance tuning, fleet utilization optimization, and monitoring frameworks (e.g., CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic).
