Job Description

About the Role: Support Engineer, Managed Operations at AWS European Sovereign Cloud

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is launching the first European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), a major advancement in Utility Computing (UC). We are seeking experienced support engineers with a strong background in cloud operations to join our AWS Managed Operations team. In this pivotal role, you will build and lead operations and development teams, dedicated to delivering high-availability AWS services such as EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock exclusively for EU customers.

You will oversee the ESC launch in 2025, collaborate with global AWS teams, and influence the evolution of AWS services and technology. Your daily activities will include working with technology leaders, enhancing day-to-day operations, and ensuring improvements in the availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC. The ultimate goal is to deliver scalable services and a high-availability experience for EU customers. If you are a seasoned professional ready for a challenging and impactful opportunity, join us in building a best-in-class development engineering and operations team aligned with AWS’s commitment to customer satisfaction and innovation.

Why AWS?

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform. We pioneered cloud computing and continuously innovate, which is why successful startups and Global 500 companies trust our robust suite of products and services.

Work/Life Balance

We value work-life harmony, striving for flexibility so that success at work doesn't compromise home life. When employees feel supported, there are no limits to what can be achieved.

Inclusive Team Culture

AWS fosters curiosity and connection. Our employee-led and company-sponsored affinity groups promote inclusion, empowering individuals to embrace their unique qualities. Our inclusion events build stronger, more collaborative teams, fueling innovation with diverse ideas and passionate voices.

Mentorship & Career Growth

We are committed to continuously raising our performance bar to become Earth’s Best Employer. You will find endless knowledge-sharing, mentorship, and career-advancing resources to support your professional development.

A Day in the Life

You will typically resolve less time-sensitive issues for your team’s software systems, constantly seeking ways to improve services, procedures, documentation, and tools. When standard operating procedures (SOPs) are unclear, you will use your judgment to decide when to escalate or when to dive deep and learn. You will be the primary resource for maintaining your team’s system efficiency. Occasional participation in “on-call” rotations for out-of-hours incident resolution is required.

Eligibility Requirement

  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
  • Candidate must be a national of an EU member state and residing in the EU to operate the AWS European Sovereign Cloud.
  • Amazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants moving within the European Union.
  • Employees will participate in an On-Call rota.

As a member of the UC organization, you will support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services. Within AWS UC, Amazon Managed Operations engineers engage with customers requiring specialized security solutions for their cloud services.
