Job Description

Data Center Technician at Amazon Web Services (AWS)

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We are the team that keeps the cloud running, supporting all AWS data centers and the essential equipment that ensures continuous access to innovation for our customers. We tackle challenging problems with numerous variables impacting the supply chain and are seeking talented individuals to join us.

You will become part of a diverse team of engineers, specialists, and managers, collaborating across AWS to uphold the highest standards for safety and security. Our goal is to provide seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers within an inclusive culture that encourages bold ideas and empowers their completion.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is actively seeking Data Center Technicians to support customers in various locations. This role requires reporting to a specific site.

As a leader in the data center world, AWS operates at a fast pace. This position is crucial for ensuring overall availability and reliability, meeting or exceeding defined service levels for data center operations. The role may include participation in a primary responder rotation, involving infrastructure monitoring, coordinating incident responses, and collaborating with other teams to quickly resolve issues impacting service availability. Primary responder duties might require evening, weekend, holiday, and/or night work to ensure global data centers operate with the highest reliability. Candidates should be capable of working both independently and as part of a team. Strong work prioritization, organizational skills, effective communication, and the ability to react swiftly are vital for success.

Beyond hardware and network repair, Data Center Technicians install equipment, create documentation, innovate solutions, and address problems within the data center environment. This team operates 24/7, and travel within and outside the regional work area is required.

Physical Requirements (With Reasonable Accommodations)

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds; participate in group lifts for 41+ pounds.
  • Ability to work in a 24/7 environment with primary responder rotation and after-hours support.
  • Work in cramped, elevated, and/or noisy environments.
  • Bending, lifting, stretching, reaching, standing, and walking for up to 8+ hours a day.
  • Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, and gangways safely and without limitation.

NOTE: Amazon is unable to provide sponsorship now or in the future for these positions. Eligible candidates must have work authorization without employer intervention to be considered.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Perform server rack installations, hardware break-fix on various components, troubleshoot network issues, and respond to operational incidents impacting service availability, escalating as needed.
  • Serve as a primary contact for internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Perform on-call duties and participate in scheduled maintenance and change management activities.
  • Contribute to documentation and process improvement initiatives based on operational issue analysis.
  • Help train and onboard new team members.

A Day in the Life

As a Data Center Technician, you will leverage industry-leading technical abilities and demonstrate broad knowledge while:

  • Taking ownership of technical issues from the customer base, engaging other teams for resolution.
  • Solving problems at their root and understanding the broader context.
  • Maintaining service level agreements through proactive issue detection and reporting.

You will be required to work shift work that includes days/nights/weekends/holidays. Traveling within and outside of your regional work area is required.
