Data Center Engineering Operations Technician

Job Overview

The Data Center Engineering Operations Technician is crucial for delivering best-practice systems and resolving issues across all data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure, including UPS, MV electrical systems, generators, and cooling systems, within a specific data center environment. This role demands a highly driven, self-managed individual who takes initiative and proactively seeks solutions to complex technical challenges. Expect frequent site interventions, critical switching activities, and hands-on troubleshooting of infrastructure issues on Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) systems like diesel generators, switchgear, UPS’s, PDU’s, AHU’s, fire detection systems, and building automation systems. You will report directly to the Data Center Engineering Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Setting and maintaining the highest standards for safety, actively promoting a world-class safety culture.
• Driving continuous improvement efforts on infrastructure through standardization of procedures and policies.
• Enabling the operations organization to deliver 100% up-time on all customer supporting infrastructure.
• Collaborating effectively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve operational excellence for AWS customers.
• Ensuring preventive maintenance of critical facility infrastructure is planned and executed to AWS standards.
• Managing facility monitoring and supervision via BMS, PMS, walkthroughs, and other methods.
• Participating in the successful delivery of build-out and retrofit projects for Data Center infrastructure.
• Ensuring organizational capability to react and respond appropriately to any customer-impacting event.
• Reviewing incident reports, documenting trend summaries, and providing management updates and actions.
• Drafting, updating, and maintaining method statements, SOPs, ERPs, PM programs, and technical documentation.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work on a 24x7 schedule when applicable.
• Comfortable working at heights and from ladders.
• Capable of performing physical tasks throughout the shift.
• Ability to work in a noisy environment with appropriate ear protection.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of key electrical competencies and theory or knowledge of mechanical systems (Mechanical, HVAC systems, Controls).
