Connectivity Engineer, AWS Data Center

Key job responsibilities
- Collaborate with vendors/manufacturers to develop and evaluate new Fiber Optic assemblies and come up with implementation plans for rack-to-rack connectivity plans.
- Define and update requirements for structured cabling systems (fiber, copper, cable trays/duct banks) for network layers at hyperscale data centers.
- Develop standards and installation guidelines for physical network/cabling deployments and structured cabling systems.
- Assist with troubleshooting problem areas in existing or new network architecture and systems development initiatives, propose and deliver projects that have a significant business and/or customer impact.
- Partner with fiber vendors and contractors; perform quality control and commissioning of fiber bundles and structured cabling systems.
- Perform mitigation analysis and site inspections to validate as-built conditions, ensuring compliance with design and operational requirements.
- Monitor network/system/link quality and build mechanism to remediate large scale events and improve health of our links.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues that are causal to fiber connectivity and fiver plant design.
- Maintain documentation, drawings, and asset records for physical fiber network components across global sites.
About The Team
Within AWS Networking, the Network Product Development (NPD) organization is responsible for designing the hardware, building the software, and owning the interconnects for the routers that power the global AWS network. Beyond product delivery, we actively manage the fleet or routers in a network that grows by 70% annually. This means tracking key business and operational metrics to ensure that we operate smoothly and minimize or eliminate customer impact due to device related issues for a transparent AWS customer experience.

Basic Qualifications
- 2+ years of working experience with fiber optic components, cabling, and interconnect products, technologies, and standards.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or other Related Field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or other Related Field.
- Experience working with fiber, connector, or other ICT components in a lab or product qualification setting.
- Experience with R&D and new product development for fiber, connector or other ICT components.
