Overview

The Director of Compliance and Quality (BCBA Required) is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing compliance and quality assurance programs to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, payer requirements, and ethical standards in ABA and behavioral health services. This leadership role is key to maintaining clinical integrity, operational excellence, and risk mitigation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Compliance Oversight: Develop a comprehensive compliance program aligned with BACB, HIPAA, Medicaid, private insurance, and state-specific regulations. Conduct regular audits of clinical documentation, billing practices, and staff credentialing. Oversee incident reporting systems to ensure timely resolution.
  • Training & Development: Train clinical and administrative staff on compliance-related policies, ethical codes such as the BACB Ethics Code, and best practices. Serve as the subject matter expert for BCBA and RBT staff.
  • Policy & Procedure Development: Create, review, and update policies related to clinical, operational, and billing compliance. Collaborate with HR and operations for proper policy implementation.
  • Clinical Quality Assurance: Review treatment and behavior intervention plans to ensure quality and compliance. Support the QA team to maintain clinical protocol fidelity and ethical standards.
  • Regulatory Interface: Act as liaison with regulatory bodies, payers, and accreditation organizations. Lead compliance investigations, audits, or accreditation reviews.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Work with executive leadership, clinical directors, and billing departments to align compliance strategies with organizational goals. Supervise compliance staff or QA teams as needed.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Active and unrestricted BCBA certification in good standing with the BACB.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in ABA service delivery with at least 2 years in a compliance or leadership role.
  • Deep knowledge of BACB Ethics Code, HIPAA, payer guidelines, and state-specific standards.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Special Education, or related field.
  • Experience with Medicaid and private insurance audits.
  • Experience in multi-site ABA organizations or healthcare systems.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems and clinical documentation tools.
