About the Role: Data Engineer

As a Data Engineer in the Investment Technology area, you will be primarily responsible for the design and development of full-stack Investment data solutions integrated with GenAI and Machine Learning applications. You will work closely with business stakeholders and domain experts to understand business and data needs, translating them into technical requirements. This role is pivotal in driving big data solutions and AI adoption, enhancing our data-driven investment process for AllianzGI's global investment management function. This position will be based in Frankfurt or Munich.

What You Will Do

• Design and engineer scalable data platforms for structured and unstructured investment data.
• Develop and manage data pipelines for market, reference, and alternative data integration.
• Design and engineer schemas and data solutions for quantitative investment research.
• Integrate solutions into AllianzGI’s AI stack and contribute to its continuous development.
• Design, build, monitor, and enhance AI-backed solutions that simplify workflows along the investment process value chain.
• Act as a data architect in the team, setting direction on technical design and data model integrity, ensuring compliance with performance, security, and regulatory requirements.
• Work closely with subject matter experts, architects, analysts, and governance teams across functions.
• Engage regularly with investment teams to understand and capture business and data requirements, gather feedback, resolve issues, and align backend solutions with evolving business needs.
• Support Business-As-Usual (BAU) operations, including platform monitoring, issue resolution, and regular health checks.
• Stay updated on innovative methods, new technologies, and tools in the market that can improve the efficiency, security, maintenance, and scalability of our platform.

What You Bring

• University degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Machine Learning, Data Science, or related fields.
• A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in data and software engineering and cloud-native architecture.
• Ideally, industry experience in finance/investment management.
• Relevant experience in RAG and Agentic architecture, GenAI, and ML based app development.
• A minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with agile teams, required.
• Proficiency in Python, including experience with libraries and frameworks relevant to ML and GenAI.
• Cloud and AI expertise (Azure Databricks, Azure Data Lake, SQL, Foundry, Kubernetes).
• Experience with Agile development and DevOps practices using tools such as Harness, GitHub, JFrog, Jira, Datadog, SDLC security.
• Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively at all organizational levels, coupled with excellent English communication both written and spoken.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively in a global and culturally diverse team environment with a strong customer-service focus.
• Understanding of and interest in learning fundamental notions of financial markets and investment management, including related data requirements.
• Ability to work independently with a high level of motivation to design and deliver best-in-class solutions.
