Responsibilities

The Classroom Assistant will provide essential support for individual pupils and groups, both inside and outside the classroom, ensuring their full participation in school activities and promoting their social, emotional, and physical well-being. Key responsibilities include:

• Being pro-active in all health and safety matters.
• Assisting in the implementation of individual education programs and monitoring pupil progress.
• Supporting pupils with additional needs, including emotional and behavioral difficulties, and fostering their social skills.
• Helping class teachers maintain accurate pupil records.
• Preparing and presenting engaging displays of pupils’ work.
• Supporting class teachers with photocopying and other administrative tasks to facilitate teaching.
• Upholding the school’s aims and adhering to health and safety regulations and school policies.
• Setting a positive example through appropriate dress, punctuality, and attendance.
• Attending team and staff meetings as required.
• Collaborating with other professionals, such as speech and occupational therapists.
• Undertaking additional duties as assigned by the principal.

Qualifications & Duties

Candidates for the Classroom Assistant position should be prepared to:

• Provide academic assistance and give group or individual instruction as directed by the teacher.
• Demonstrate various instructional activities effectively.
• Monitor and check pupils’ work in progress, providing corrections.
• Ensure pupils remain focused on tasks.
• Praise and reinforce pupil achievements, reporting progress to the teacher.
• Reorganize classroom materials at the end of each day.
• Check attendance records.
• Supervise pupils in classrooms and other school locations.
• Participate in developing behavior policies and promoting pupils’ self-esteem.
• Administer discipline for misbehavior in alignment with whole-school policy.
