Intern, Public Equities
This position is open to candidates who are willing to relocate to Alberta, and we encourage all interested individuals to apply.
AIMCo’s Public Equities team provides core asset class exposure to Canadian and global equity markets. The team combines internally and externally managed strategies to help meet our clients’ objectives. Internally managed investments include Systematic, Alpha, and Fundamental strategies that currently invest in more than 45 countries around the world. Externally-managed investments include long-only equity and hedge fund strategies, and are employed in areas where internal management does not offer a competitive or cost advantage. The Portfolio Management team helps bring these strategies together and offer performant products to clients within our risk tolerance at competitive costs.
This is a 3-month full-time position until June 30, 2026.
Responsibilities
- Assisting in the development of reports and tools to help portfolio managers increase the efficiency and transparency of our products
- Assisting the Portfolio Management team to successfully complete a business transformation project, which includes trade entry, position monitoring, reporting, and system reconciliation
- Collaborating with team members to develop a practical understanding of the day-to-day operations of a global investment firm
Our Ideal Candidate Qualifications
- Holder or in pursuit of an undergraduate degree in finance, economics, math, statistics, computer science or related field
- Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of investment management
- Understanding of equity derivatives, such as swaps and futures, is an asset
- Pursuit of, or the intent to pursue, the CFA designation is an asset
- Experience with programming, especially in SQL, is an asset
- Collaborative team player with good communication skills
- High attention to detail and a desire to advance analytical skillsets
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

Success Measures
Success at the end of your term will be determined by your ability to seek out learning opportunities and become involved in multiple projects, tasks, responsibilities and investments. You will have developed an increased understanding of investment concepts and market knowledge, and a new appreciation of finance and investment management. An intern who goes above and beyond expectations will participate in multiple projects and add value to team initiatives.
