Your Opportunity:
Here at Cancer Care Alberta (CCA), our goal is to lead in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and palliative care based on world-class research. Alberta Health Services is welcoming applications for a Budget Coordinator to join the Clinical Research Unit (CRU) at the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre. This full-time role is initially for approximately 12 months with potential extension, subject to grant funding.
Description:
As a member of the Arthur Child CRU Finance Team, the Budget Coordinator prepares, maintains, negotiates, and finalizes clinical trial study budgets. Acting as the primary liaison between the CRU and pharmaceutical sponsors, clinical research organizations, or funding agencies, the role involves analyzing study protocols, assessing resource requirements, and performing timely and accurate budget reviews for submission and negotiations.
The responsibilities include:
- Maintaining and updating budget trackers and costing templates.
- Communicating budget status to management and study teams.
- Reviewing protocol amendments and assessing their budget impacts.
- Collaborating with AHS Finance on agreements and invoice processing.
- Responding to billing queries and ensuring study close-out reconciliations.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, healthcare, or research. Experience in budget and/or contracts negotiation in a research or academic setting is essential.
Additional Qualifications:
A team player with strong attention to detail, superior organizational and time management skills, and advanced communication skills. Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in clinical trials or 3 years in a research/healthcare setting alongside competencies in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with contracts and budget development in a clinical trials/research or grant funding environment, familiarity with medical tests and procedures, and experience working with pharmaceutical sponsors and clinical research organizations.
