Job Description
About the Role
Albany Medical Center is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU) team. This role involves daily collaboration with neurointensivists, critical care nurses, and a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality care to critically ill neurological patients. The team manages conditions such as severe strokes, brain hemorrhages, inflammatory diseases, refractory seizures, and neuromuscular conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily patient assessments and physical examinations.
- Review and interpret patient data.
- Liaise with consultative services and participate in daily teaching rounds.
- Execute patient care plans.
- Manage advanced life support, including cardiac and neurological emergencies.
- Oversee ventilator management and critical care principles.
- Perform transcranial Doppler and bedside ultrasound.
- Place central venous catheters and arterial lines.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner Master’s degree program.
- Current NYS licensure, Board Certified, and DEA registration.
- Possess or obtain a National Provider Identifier (NPI).
- Excellent verbal, writing, and interpersonal skills.
- Professional demeanor and integrity.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
This role requires constant standing, walking, talking, hearing, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions, with frequent lifting, carrying, stooping, reaching, and handling. Occasional pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, and kneeling are also involved. The working environment includes constant noise and frequent hazards.
