Clinical Nurse II: OR

Department/Unit: Operating Room

Work Shift: Day

Location: Albany, NY

Salary Range: $83,200.00 - $93,184.00

Position Summary

The Registered Professional Nurse assesses, coordinates, plans, directs, implements, and manages the needs of surgical patients throughout the episode of care, with a focus on progress toward discharge, including during transitions within the acute care stay. The surgical nurse acts as the patient's advocate during the surgical procedure. The Registered Professional Nurse is responsible for the delivery and coordination of patient care provided by the caregiving team. They ensure that competent, compassionate patient care is uniformly provided to customers, including referring facilities, hospital staff, and patients in the inpatient, ambulatory, and community settings.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Include But Not Limited To

  • Implements physician orders, administers medications to the sterile field, and documents as required by organizational policy and local/state/federal rules and regulations.
  • Assesses and evaluates patient needs for, and responses to, care rendered.
  • Applies sound nursing judgment in patient care management decisions.
  • Directs and guides ancillary personnel and maintains standards of professional nursing.
  • Acts as the patient advocate in the surgical setting.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of a professional academic nursing program with a preferred Diploma, Associate Degree, or Baccalaureate Degree.
  • Must hold a current NYS Registered Nurse license.
  • Obtains and maintains certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); CNOR is preferred.
  • 1-3 years of previous clinical RN experience in a surgical setting is preferred.
  • Possesses knowledge of quality concepts, principles, and problem-solving tools and techniques and demonstrates the ability to apply them in support of departmental and patient care quality improvement.

About the Albany Medical Center’s Surgical Care Program

The Albany Medical Center’s Surgical Care program is growing to address the needs of our patients, with expanded surgical facilities and capabilities. The Operating Room at our Main Campus features 35 state-of-the-art operating suites with advanced robotic technology and specialty rooms for cardiac, neurology, urology, vascular, and pediatric patients. We also have a hybrid operating suite that combines minimally invasive and interventional surgical techniques with 3D and rotational CT imaging, as well as a two-room intraoperative CT suite for highly complex spine and brain surgery procedures.

Reasonable efforts shall be made to ensure that information is adequately protected from unauthorized access and modification.
