As a Motion Designer at our Berlin studio, you’ll be instrumental in building impactful brand motion systems, animating engaging campaigns, and crafting captivating experiences across digital products, .com platforms, and apps. With strong conceptual and strategic foundations, you’ll work alongside art directors, designers, and our broader creative team to transform ideas into captivating motion graphics and animations that will elevate our clients’ brand stories across every touchpoint. You’re a visionary designer who sees motion as an art form that plays a key role in bringing a brand to life across the entire customer journey.
As part of the AKQA team, you will work in an environment that fosters a dynamic and inclusive culture, enabled by our multidisciplinary approach and supported by some of the brightest minds in their field. You will report to a Creative Director and will have a close, collaborative relationship with the other Creative, Design, and Experience leads across the studio.
Role Requirements
- Lead the creation of distinctive motion design systems for brand identities, marketing campaigns, digital products (.com platforms, apps), and communications—grounded in strong conceptual thinking and strategic insight.
- Design and deliver high-quality 2D and 3D motion, UI animations, and brand motion principles across a wide range of outputs, including brand films, campaign sizzles, social content, and immersive visual narratives.
- Collaborate closely with creative directors, art directors, brand and experience designers, and client teams to bring ambitious ideas to life and push creative boundaries.
- Stay at the forefront of motion and digital design trends, combining tools, techniques, and emerging technologies to create work that shapes culture and elevates brands.
- Confidently move between defining scalable motion systems, animating high-impact campaigns, and enhancing digital product experiences with thoughtful, expressive motion.
- Create clear, compelling client-facing presentations that communicate vision, conceptual rationale, and executional guidelines.
- Translate brand and experience strategies into innovative motion solutions for complex, multi-channel design challenges.
- Mentor and support mid-level and junior designers, helping raise the overall quality and ambition of motion work across film, 2D/3D, and video.
- Lead the motion discipline on client projects, owning deliverables, maintaining momentum, and ensuring work meets timelines and AKQA’s standards of creative excellence.
Qualities and Characteristics
- A standout portfolio demonstrating depth and range across brand identity, integrated campaigns, communications, and digital product experiences (.com and app).
- 5+ years of professional experience in motion design.
- Advanced expertise in After Effects and strong proficiency with relevant design tools, paired with a curiosity for emerging platforms and techniques such as TouchDesigner and Cavalry.
- A culturally curious mindset, with a strong awareness of design, technology, and visual culture—and an instinct for what’s next.
- Experience with Cinema 4D, Houdini, or other 3D tools is a plus, though not a core requirement.
- A conceptual thinker who approaches motion with intention—always understanding the “why” behind every movement, system, and execution.
- A self-driven learner with a relentless desire to grow, experiment, and refine your craft.
