Job Description
Postdoctoral Researcher Electrochemical Oxygen Sensors
Aix-Marseille University is seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Researcher specializing in electrochemical oxygen sensors. This 12-month position focuses on developing high-performance O2 sensors with a strong emphasis on microelectronics and micro-technologies. The ideal candidate will have expertise in electrical characterization, aiming to improve sensitivity, selectivity, and long-term stability for critical environmental and industrial applications.
Key Technical Skills
- Electrical Characterization of Microsensors: Characterization of microsensor components, with studies in potentiometric and amperometric configurations.
- Materials Science: Expertise in thin-film deposition for sensor layers and electrical characterization under gas environments.
- Prototyping: Hands-on experience with microfabrication in cleanroom environments and system integration.
- Analytical Electrochemistry: Proficient in techniques such as Cyclic Voltammetry (CV), Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), and Chrono-amperometry.
Research Topics to be Addressed
- Miniaturization: Focus on the development of thin-film electrochemical oxygen microsensors.
- Optimization of Interfaces: Research on solid electrolyte, electrode metal, and reference interfaces, optimizing layer thicknesses and nanostructures.
- Electrical Characterizations under Oxygen Concentrations: Study the kinetics of oxygen reactions under varying concentrations using nanostructured materials.
- Performance of Oxygen Microsensors: Analyze microsensor response distribution across wafers relative to layer thicknesses. Conduct sensitivity studies (detection limit < 0.1% O2), response time (< 5 seconds), stability (signal drift < 2% per year), and selectivity (addressing interfering factors like CO, CO2, humidity).
Candidate Profile
Candidates should hold a Doctoral (PhD) degree in Microelectronics, Thin Film Materials Engineering, or a related field, with a specialization in electrical characterization of electrochemical sensors, metallic electrode interfaces, solid electrolyte, and reference materials.
Communication and Outreach
Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, including report writing and scientific communication. The role requires strong organizational skills and a demonstrated aptitude for interdisciplinary collaboration and teamwork.
