The Opportunity: Technical Platform Manager, AI & People Technology
As a Technical Platform Manager, AI & People Technology, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of Airbnb's employee experience. Your focus will be on building transformative, intelligent solutions powered by AI/ML. This hands-on builder role involves translating evolving HR service and employee needs into scalable products, integrating existing tools and data flows, and launching impactful, experimental prototypes. You will be expected to independently build and validate real prototypes, demonstrating how AI can address critical Employee Experience (EX) pain points. Success in this role requires a unique blend of engineering acumen, product strategy, and service design communication skills. You will help architect a more seamless internal operating system that empowers employees and managers, improves clarity, and integrates AI into core workflows.
What You'll Do
- Translate employee and manager workflows into concrete HR product opportunities.
- Independently build and test working prototypes, including agent-based flows, lightweight applications, and embedded LLM tools.
- Outline requirements for system integrations across key HR tools such as Workday, Greenhouse, Qualtrics, RightAnswers, Airtable, and Asana.
- Lead stakeholder discovery sessions to pinpoint HR and automation opportunities.
- Evaluate third-party AI tools for HR applications versus developing core functionalities in-house.
- Design and execute quick pilots focused on decision support, communications, knowledge management, or resource planning.
- Define success metrics, track impact, and establish product feedback loops to drive continuous improvement.
- Transform complex AI solutions into clear, simple narratives understandable by internal business stakeholders.
- Collaborate with BizTech, Legal, and InfoSec to ensure prototypes adhere to Airbnb’s privacy, security, and ethics standards.
- Continuously evolve the EX AI strategy based on emerging insights, new technologies, and organizational needs.
Requirements
- Experience: 8+ years in product management, with significant hands-on experience building or engineering AI/ML-powered tools or platforms.
- Prototyping Expertise: Proven ability to scope, build, and deliver rapid prototypes using LLMs, automation systems, or web-based tooling.
- HR Systems Knowledge: Strong fluency in HR systems or organizational strategy, covering areas like performance, recruiting, planning, or people analytics.
- Product Delivery: A track record of translating complex, cross-functional needs into successfully tested and shipped products.
- Data-Driven: Utilizes data to inform decisions from design to measuring impact.
- Technical Fluency: Scrappy and technically proficient, comfortable writing basic scripts, chaining prompts, or standing up low-code tools for idea testing.
- AI Tools: Hands-on experience with tools like LangChain, LLMs, or vector databases, or a strong eagerness to learn them rapidly.
- Tech Stacks: Familiarity with tech stacks across knowledge management, portfolio planning, and HR/People tools.
- Internal Focus: Experienced in serving internal audiences such as EX and BizTech, not exclusively external clients.
- Collaboration: Collaborative, systems-oriented, and skilled at connecting dots across people, processes, and platforms.
- Communication: Adept in visual storytelling (Miro/Figma, slideware) and effective stakeholder communications.
- Mission Alignment: Passionate about Airbnb’s mission, the future of work, and the human-AI partnership within it.
