Role Overview: Product Owner - Day of Travel

The Product Owner is instrumental in building and maintaining Air Canada’s mobile application backend backlog, specifically for day-of-travel products. This role involves close collaboration with the Senior Manager, Digital Product, to oversee the entire development lifecycle. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to identify practical recommendations and clearly document solutions for complex issues.

This position requires a customer-centric individual with a deep passion for the travel industry and creating exceptional digital experiences. You should be comfortable thriving in a high-paced, high-energy, collaborative environment, with a strong focus on a continuous product delivery model.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage digital day-of-travel products on Air Canada’s mobile app, encompassing features such as boarding pass issuance and management, home screen experience, passport scanning, and digital identification.
  • Build and prioritize the backlog of user stories, meticulously creating and organizing features within the backlog.
  • Collaborate effectively with designers, developers, and testers to ensure all user stories meet the defined criteria for completion.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for requirement elaboration, user story review, and the establishment of story acceptance criteria.
  • Work closely with both internal stakeholders (including Airports, Commercial, Legal, and Loyalty teams) and external partners to deliver valuable new features.
  • Actively coordinate efforts with other Product Owners and Product Managers to account for dependencies and ensure enablers are properly prioritized.
  • Contribute to program planning and roadmap development alongside the Senior Manager, Digital Product.
  • Proactively identify potential challenges and formulate actionable, relevant recommendations to address them effectively.

Qualifications

  • A University degree in Business, Commerce, or Computer Sciences, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in delivering impactful digital experiences.
  • Strong understanding of mobile technologies and emerging trends.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Strong written and spoken communication abilities.
  • Innovative and creative mindset with the capability to identify and document solutions to complex problems.
  • Mandatory experience working within an Agile/continuous delivery model.
  • High-level knowledge and/or understanding of Amazon Web Services (AWS) serverless stack is strongly desired.
  • Experience with building consumer-facing digital experiences is strongly desired.
  • Airline or travel industry experience is a plus, but not strictly required.
  • Prior experience with the Amadeus Altéa Suite of Passenger Service Applications (e.g., CM & ARDWeb) is a plus, but not strictly required.
  • Demonstrated punctuality and dependability are essential for supporting overall team success in a fast-paced environment.

Candidates must be eligible to work in the country of interest at the time any offer of employment is made and are responsible for obtaining any required work permits, visas, or other authorizations necessary for employment. Prior to their start date, candidates will also need to provide proof of their eligibility to work in the country of interest.
