About the Role - Head of the AI Deployment Lab

The Italian Institute of Artificial Intelligence for Industry (AI4I) is seeking an experienced and mission-driven leader to head the AI Deployment Lab in Turin, Italy. In this role, you will be responsible for translating advanced AI research into industrial-grade, production-ready solutions, ensuring that AI technologies make a real-world impact across Italy’s industrial ecosystem.

The AI Deployment Lab

The Lab is dedicated to deployment, integration, and scaling of high-TRL AI systems within partner companies and production environments. It acts as a bridge between R&D and industry by transforming proven technologies into reliable tools, software systems, and platforms adapted to various sectors including manufacturing, logistics, energy, and smart infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Deployment Strategy & Execution: Design and implement scalable pipelines for AI solutions ensuring performance and robustness.
• Client Engagement: Collaborate with partner companies to tailor AI deployments to operational needs.
• Team Leadership: Recruit, manage, and mentor a multidisciplinary team of deployment professionals.
• Technology Transfer: Convert AI research outputs into industrial-grade solutions customized for specific domains.
• Cross-Unit Coordination: Work with R&D Labs, AI Foundry, and Business Development to align strategies.
• Quality & Reliability: Maintain high standards of compliance, performance, and documentation.
• Business Development: Assist in scoping new opportunities and preparing technical offers.
• KPIs and Reporting: Monitor deployment outcomes and report on AI solution adoption and impact.

What We Are Looking For

A mission-driven technical leader with a proven track record in deploying AI or data-driven systems in production environments. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in AI system deployment, strong engineering skills, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams on complex industrial projects.

Required and Preferred Qualifications

• Proven experience deploying AI or data-driven systems in production (factories, logistics, etc.).
• Deep understanding of the AI engineering lifecycle including design, integration, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
• Demonstrated leadership in managing large multidisciplinary teams and complex industrial projects.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills in industrial settings.
• Preferred: Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics or related field; edge AI, model optimization, AI safety experience a plus.
