Manager, Software Engineering, Fraud at Affirm
Affirm is revolutionizing credit to be more transparent and consumer-friendly, offering flexibility for purchases without hidden fees or compounding interest.
The Fraud Platform team is at the forefront of building Affirm's next-generation Fraud Decisioning System. This team operates with a strong mandate, empowered to innovate, experiment, and deploy cutting-edge fraud defense solutions. We are seeking a passionate and skilled engineering manager to lead a dynamic team of 6 engineers. In this role, you will directly influence Affirm's capabilities in safeguarding both the company and its clients from malicious actors.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with Product, Analytics, Machine Learning, Compliance, Operations, and other engineering managers to formulate a long-term technical roadmap that addresses stakeholder requirements.
- Actively recruit and hire talented engineers, contributing to team growth and expertise.
- Uphold a high technical standard, emphasizing longevity and simplicity through thorough specification and architecture reviews.
- Coach, develop, retain, and provide constructive feedback to team members, fostering their professional growth.
- Establish Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to guide the engineering team's direction and evaluate its achievements.
- Cultivate a robust engineering culture centered on innovation, accountability, empathy, and effective execution.
What We Look For
- Experience: 2-3+ years managing high-performing engineering teams.
- Past experience in Fraud/Risk/Financial systems is a significant advantage.
- Prior experience building platform solutions is also a plus.
- Technical: Possess solid engineering fundamentals and practical experience in constructing scalable distributed backend services.
- Collaborative: Demonstrated history of successful cross-functional collaboration, particularly with product managers, business partners, and engineering counterparts.
- Potential: The capacity to grow and adapt alongside a rapidly expanding company and team.
- Humble: Exhibits humility and self-awareness essential for navigating complex situations effectively.

- This position requires either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT) per year: $225,000 - $275,000
USA base pay range (all other U.S. states) per year: $200,000 - $250,000
