Overview
The Safety Specialist Manager is a People Manager role responsible for leading a team of Corporate Safety Officers and overseeing the strategic development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Aer Lingus’ risk management policies and procedures. The role ensures regulatory alignment, integration with the company’s Safety Management System, and a proactive safety culture across operational and maintenance domains.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop Safety Specialists including Flight Safety, Risk, Dangerous Goods, and Emergency Response Planning Officers.
- Coordinate cross-functional safety initiatives and ensure consistent application of practices.
- Own and evolve the corporate risk management framework including HIRA processes.
- Develop and maintain risk management policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Oversee analysis of safety reports, audits, investigations, and data management.
- Support oversight of ACMI and wet-lease operations and act as key liaison with regulatory bodies.
- Represent Aer Lingus at industry forums and promote Just Culture principles.
- Support Emergency Response Planning through exercises and post-incident reviews.
- Manage administrative tasks for the Safety & Security Office.
Qualifications & Key Criteria
- Proven leadership in aviation safety or risk management.
- In-depth knowledge of ICAO Safety Management Systems and EASA regulations.
- Experience with safety data analysis tools like FDM and SafetyNet.
- Strong interpersonal, communication skills and industry relevant academic background.
- Desirable training in Fatigue Risk Management, Accident Investigation, and Dangerous Goods.
