Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Senior Fluvial Geomorphologist for employment in Canada, with experience in applied fluvial geomorphology. AECOM is continuing to expand its fluvial geomorphology expertise in both environmental and engineering projects. The successful applicant for the Senior Fluvial Geomorphologist position will be a motivated individual, excited to contribute to the growth of the fluvial geomorphology practice area within AECOM across Canada.

The Senior Fluvial Geomorphologist will work with AECOM’s fluvial geomorphologists, hydraulic engineers, and ecologists to deliver various stream restoration projects, including:

  • Restoration of natural processes and habitat conditions
  • Erosion control and fish passage improvements
  • Assisting with hazard identification
  • Facilitating infrastructure improvements

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Utilizing scientific principles, theories, practices, and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope
  • Collecting and entering data, and applying technical principles and theories
  • Interpreting and recording data, conducting analyses, and comparing findings to relevant studies and local, provincial, and federal regulations to ensure compliance
  • Leading ‘Natural Channel Design’ and stream restoration projects, completing assessments on existing and proposed conditions to provide enhancement recommendations and design input
  • Conducting detailed field investigations and assessments, including sediment transport and scour analysis
  • Analyzing and interpreting geomorphic and hydraulic data
  • Writing technical reports
  • Reviewing technical reports
  • Working collaboratively across offices and disciplines in Canada, and participating in meetings with clients and stakeholders

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline (e.g., geomorphology, river engineering, earth science)
  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience
  • Familiarity with GIS and CAD software
  • Knowledge of fluvial form, processes, and functions, including their dependence on local physiography and influence on ecological habitats
  • Experience with river and stream channel hydraulics and channel stability analysis
  • Experience in environmental data collection, identification, investigation, data entry, and assessments
  • Experience developing stream restoration and enhancement recommendations
  • Ability to travel, including to remote areas, and efficiently conduct fieldwork

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree specializing in fluvial geomorphology is an asset
  • 10 years + of relevant work experience
  • Familiarity with Natural Channel Design approaches, from concept development through detailed design, construction implementation, and monitoring
  • Experience using GIS and hydraulic modeling applications for study design and data analysis
  • Geohazard mapping and slope stability analysis experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience with proposal writing and/or project management
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage personal project workload and meet deadlines
  • Eligibility for professional registration (P.Geo. and/or P.Eng.)

Additional Information

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $75000 to $105000.
