Federal Civilian Business Unit Support
The Federal Civilian business unit serves a diverse clientele including NASA, the General Services Administration, Office of Personnel Management, the Library of Congress, Health & Human Services, and the FDIC. Ad Hoc partners with these agencies to build new capabilities, deliver products, establish data as a strategic asset, modernize legacy systems, and develop digital service infrastructure to scale mission impact.
Primary Responsibilities for Software Engineer II - Front End
As an individual contributor, you will support the achievement of scope, schedule, and delivery requirements under leadership guidance. You will develop an understanding of the engineering function and interact with stakeholders. Key expectations include:
- Building and maintaining user-facing applications using Angular, HTML/CSS, and JavaScript, implementing designs from Figma specifications with federal Design System components.
- Writing and maintaining end-to-end tests with Selenium and Cypress for UI workflows, contributing to automated test coverage targets.
- Ensuring frontend implementations meet WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards in collaboration with the UX/Accessibility team.
- Debugging, optimizing, and monitoring work across test and production environments, participating in CI/CD pipeline contributions.
- Participating in mandatory peer code reviews and adhering to the four-eyes principle on all commits.
- Collaborating with backend engineers, QA, and UX designers for complete feature delivery from refinement to deployment.
- Participating in SAFe ceremonies such as sprint planning, standups, reviews, and retrospectives.
- Contributing to Design System component development and maintaining consistency across program modules.
- Supporting on-call rotations and developing cross-functional knowledge through paired programming.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of relevant engineering experience and a Bachelor's degree, or equivalent additional experience.
- Ability to meet federal suitability requirements and pass a background investigation.
- Proficiency in HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and Angular for modern web application development.
- Experience implementing UI designs from Figma or equivalent tools.
- Familiarity with automated testing frameworks like Selenium, Cypress, or Playwright.
- Working knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Git/GitLab version control.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in an agile environment across engineering, QA, and design.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with federal agency digital services or government contracting.
- Familiarity with Design System governance and component library contribution.
- Experience with accessibility testing tools (e.g., Axe, pa11y, ANDI, JAWS, NVDA).
- Exposure to SAFe or scaled Agile delivery frameworks.
- Experience with a federal Design System or USWDS component standards.
