Overview
Acuity Insurance is seeking a Systems Engineer - Database Administration to join the Database Administration team. This team supports installations of Db2, Microsoft SQL, Postgres, and Hive across multiple platforms, handling database changes, installations, maintenance, and working collaboratively with the Open Engineering - Data team.
Essential Functions
The role requires:
- Research, design, and implement enterprise data storage software, architectures, and tools.
- Monitor, optimize, and allocate physical data storage for database systems.
- Develop routines for best database utilization and support end-users.
- Conduct research, test new products, and contribute to procurement decisions.
- Create and maintain database objects and utilities.
- Develop and implement database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies.
- Design and execute comprehensive database recovery plans.
- Set up access controls and educate staff on new database technologies.
- Participate in system performance tuning, integration of hardware platforms, and Disaster Recovery plans.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance and perform other assigned duties.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s or Associate Degree in Computer Science, MIS or equivalent, with 3-5 years practical experience in computer operations, technical support, or information security.
Other Qualifications
- A keen interest and aptitude for problem identification and resolution.
- Strong understanding of operating systems, network components, and database management.
- Ability to provide audit trails and recovery points during project cycles.
- Excellent cooperative and communication skills with technical and non-technical staff.
- Willingness to respond to issues on short notice and work outside typical hours if required.
Additional Information
This is an exempt position. The salary range is approximately $100,000 - $140,000 annually, with benefits including 401(k), medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid time off, and more. Applicants must have U.S. work authorization as Acuity does not sponsor visas.
