Product Engineer Intern - Actian CTO Office

Internship Overview
We are looking for interns to join us for our 2026 Summer Internship Program! This 12-week program is set to begin June 8th. This program has been designed with our interns in mind and includes structured learning plans, a dedicated buddy, and a focused capstone project that you will have the opportunity to present in our Internship Showcase!

Position Overview
Join Actian’s CTO Office team as a Product Engineer Intern and help shape the next generation of AI-powered data product tooling. You will work within Actian’s Data Intelligence Platform and Data Product Workbench, applying artificial intelligence to data contract and data product lifecycle challenges, including similarity search, maturity assessment, natural language generation, governance gamification, and AI-driven coaching. You will collaborate directly with customers, partners, and the open-source community (Bitol/Linux Foundation). Two intern positions are available, each with a dedicated AI-focused capstone project.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and deliver an AI-focused capstone project: either an AI intelligence layer for data contracts (similarity search, lifecycle management, maturity assessment, NLG) or an AI-powered governance coach and gamification engine for data products.
- Build and integrate AI/ML features into Actian’s Data Product Workbench using Java, Python, and React.
- Collaborate with customers, partners, and the Bitol open-source community (Linux Foundation) to validate requirements and gather feedback.
- Participate in sprint ceremonies, code reviews, and design discussions with the product and engineering teams.
- Present your capstone project and findings at the Internship Showcase in week 12.
Nice to Haves:
- Pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Science (junior standing or above preferred).
- At least one prior successful internship in software engineering or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with Claude Code is required.
- Hands-on experience with Linux deployment is required.
- Hands-on experience with Java (Springboot), Python, or React; familiarity with AI/ML libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, PyTorch, LangChain) is a plus.
- Interest in data management, data governance, or open standards (ODCS, ODPS).
- Strong communication skills and comfort working with external stakeholders (customers and partners).
Requirements:
- Must be actively enrolled in a college degree program.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
