Overview

Acre is seeking to appoint three Independent Council Members for Better Cotton, the world’s largest cotton sustainability initiative. These voluntary positions offer expenses coverage and involve remote work with some in-person meetings.

About Better Cotton

Better Cotton partners with farmers, governments, and companies to transform the cotton industry into a more sustainable and equitable sector, positively impacting millions of livelihoods and aligning over 20% of global cotton production with its standards.

The Role

As an Independent Council Member, you will join the organization’s top governance body to shape strategy, ensure accountability, and provide independent oversight. The role focuses on one of three key areas: Human Rights and Labor Rights, Innovative Finance and Resource Mobilisation, or Gender and Inclusion.

  • Contribute specialist expertise in your domain.
  • Bring on-the-ground program implementation experience.
  • Ensure inclusive, accountable, and effective decision-making.
  • Strengthen governance and risk management across a complex international organization.

What You Will Bring

  • Senior-level experience in one or more of the key areas.
  • Proven field experience, ideally within emerging markets or agricultural supply chains.
  • Previous board, trustee, or senior governance experience.
  • An independent perspective and strong commitment to sustainability and inclusion.
  • Preference for candidates with strong ties to cotton-producing regions.
