About the Role

As the Assistant Director, Network Regulation at the AER, you will have the opportunity to work on ensuring an integrated approach to the AER’s network economic regulatory roles in electricity and gas. You will be part of a team dedicated to making energy consumers better off now and in the future, while supporting Australia’s transition to net zero emissions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a small team in analytical activities, providing clear direction and support.
- Manage and plan complex and long-term projects.
- Research, investigate and analyse information to develop insights and formulate advice for the AER Board.
- Analyse complex data sets and use tools like Power BI for data visualisation.
- Design and facilitate consultation processes with stakeholders.
- Prepare written materials including issues papers, reports, guidelines, and speeches.
- Build and manage stakeholder relationships with industry bodies, government agencies and consumer groups.
- Manage information collection, use and storage related to regulatory responsibilities in the energy sector.
About You
- Experience in leading teams in a large, fast-paced, people-centred organisation.
- Solid understanding or ability to quickly acquire knowledge of Australian energy markets and the AER's objectives.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence and negotiate.
- Well-developed organisational and analytical skills.
- Tertiary qualifications in economics, commerce, corporate finance, law, public policy, engineering, or related fields with at least 5 years post qualification experience.
Desirable Skills
- Advanced knowledge of MS Excel.
- Experience or willingness to quickly learn data management techniques.
- Familiarity with competitive tender processes for large infrastructure projects.
Work Arrangement and Location
This role can be performed at any of the AER offices located in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, or Sydney. It is available on a full-time, part-time or job-share basis. Applicants from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
