The AI & Analytics Model Risk department, situated within Model Risk Management & Model Validation (MRM&MV) in Amsterdam, is a culturally diverse team of 8-10 highly qualified professionals. This team is responsible for model risk management and validation across various AI, FEC, and analytical domains, including models used by CRO IT & Cyber, Compliance (incl. SIM), Brand Marketing & Communications, Group Audit, Central Operations Office (inc. DFC), Innovation & Technology, Human Resources, and all generative AI models bank-wide.

ABN AMRO is seeking an experienced leader for this department, someone with a strategic vision, determination, and presence to drive improvement and innovation. The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise in international financial markets, related models, and relevant regulations, capable of leading a diverse team of high-value specialists.

Your Job

Key Responsibilities

• Leads the implementation and execution of the Model Risk Management Framework, encompassing model discovery, tiering, inventory management, validation, risk reporting, risk monitoring, and risk assessment, alongside setting the Risk Appetite Statement.
• Directs and coordinates the tracking of all outstanding model-related findings, ensuring timely assessment and closure of requests.
• Oversees the management and administration of the Methodology Acceptance Groups (MAGs), as well as model risk reporting.
• Defines and maintains model validation requirements and procedures.
• Identifies and signals issues or problems through validation and other oversight activities, providing proposals for corrective actions.
• Facilitates the transition from an MV focus to an MRM&MV orientation within teams.
• Drives the integration of MRM tasks with the MV department.
• Initiates a change in the way of working, shifting from process-oriented to risk-aware prioritization and execution.
• Expands the coverage of MRM across the entire organization.
• Fosters a deep understanding of model risk and risk management in general within the team.

Key Relationships

The AI & Analytics Model Risk department is an integral part of ABN AMRO’s Model Risk Management & Model Validation (MRM&MV) department, alongside Financial Markets Model Risk, Retail Credit Model Risk, and Non-Retail Credit Model Risk teams. As a member of the MRM&MV management team, you will report directly to the head of MRM&MV, who in turn reports to the CRO.

Key stakeholders include various functions (COO, I&T), Risk (Compliance, CRO IT & Cyber), senior management, internal & external auditors, the ECB, and other regulators.

Your Profile

Ideal Experience

• Academic degree with at least 10 years’ experience working as a leader.
• Relevant and proven experience within risk management.
• Proven track record in maintaining and strengthening stakeholder relationships at ELG and ELT level.
• Deep model risk knowledge and a robust risk management toolkit.
• Extensive knowledge of risk management practices and ABN AMRO business, including in-depth knowledge of products and client propositions, corresponding risk, regulations, and models.
• Extensive experience in managing teams with highly skilled and trained professionals.
• Good understanding of developments in the financial industry and the ability to relate this to ABN AMRO's activities.
