Job Description: Data Analyst

We are looking for a driven Data Analyst to join our data team. You will play a crucial role in our ongoing migration from a legacy Azure SQL Data Warehouse to a modern Microsoft Fabric environment. This role is a unique mix of forensic data analysis and modern data engineering. A significant part of your early work will involve analysing and translating existing data models from our legacy tool (WhereScape RED) and rebuilding robust, scalable pipelines, models, and reporting layers in Microsoft Fabric and Power BI.

Key Responsibilities

• Data Migration & Engineering: Assist in the end-to-end migration of our data warehouse from Azure SQL to Microsoft Fabric.
• Legacy System Analysis: Analyse, decipher, and extract business logic, data models, and ETL pipelines currently housed in WhereScape RED.
• Pipeline Development: Build, test, and optimise data ingestion and transformation pipelines using PySpark and SQL within the Fabric ecosystem.
• Comprehensive Data Modeling: Design and implement diverse data models across the pipeline, structuring foundational common data layers and designing the final Gold layer using dimensional modeling and star schemas optimised for downstream analytics.
• Analytics & Reporting: Develop and maintain core reporting datasets and dashboards using Power BI to ensure business stakeholders have accurate, actionable insights.
• Data Validation: Ensure data integrity and continuity between legacy and new systems during the migration process.

Qualifications

• SQL Mastery: Strong, demonstrable proficiency in writing complex, highly optimised SQL queries.
• PySpark Experience: Practical knowledge of PySpark for data processing and transformation.
• Data Lakehouse Architecture: A firm understanding of modern Data Lakehouse principles (such as Delta tables and the Medallion architecture) and how they apply to building scalable data solutions.
• Data Modeling: A strong grasp of broader data warehousing concepts, including experience moving data through various modeling stages (from staging and common layers up to dimensional/star schema design).
• Power BI Proficiency: Crucial hands-on experience building datasets, DAX measures, and reports within Power BI.
• Microsoft Fabric: Practical experience or a strong foundational understanding of the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem (OneLake, Data Engineering, Data Factory).
• Workspace Management: Familiarity with organising, navigating, and managing Microsoft Fabric and Power BI workspaces, including understanding deployment pipelines and basic governance.
• WhereScape RED: Experience with WhereScape RED is highly required to help us efficiently deconstruct and reverse-engineer the legacy environment.
• Problem-Solving Mindset: Excellent analytical skills with the patience and ability to untangle complex, legacy business logic.
